Coatesville, Pennsylvania

Coatesville, PA is a city in Chester County, Pennsylvania and is home to approximately 13,000 people. Bridge-Town was the former name of the borough but the citizens of Coatesville voted for the borough to become a city in 1915. Since then, the population has grown rapidly and many landmarks have been built. This beautiful, historic city is home to the Clock Tower Building and the Brandywine Mansion, which is one of the most historic and old buildings in town. Perhaps one of the most famous companies originated in Coatesville in 1810, known as the Lukens Steel Company. The city of Coatesville has since grown over the years and was nicknamed “The Pittsburgh of the East.” Many schools, religious landmarks, and businesses have helped shape the city. The Coatesville Historic District is home to 457 buildings that surround the residential area of the city. Some of these buildings are known to have a Gothic or Italianate style from the late 1800’s. The district was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
