Oxford, Pennsylvania is a borough in Southern Chester County, PA that is home to over 5,000 Pennsylvania residents. Oxford is a historic town and used to be called both Oxford Crossing and Oxford Village. Oxford, PA is known as the halfway mark between the two cities of Philadelphia and Baltimore. The small borough has a total span of 1.9 square miles. There are many points of interest in this historic borough including The Oxford Town Clock on South Third Street which was restored in 2001 and symbolizes the citizens of Oxford and its volunteers. Oxford has six schools in the Oxford school district and the borough is extremely close to Lincoln University, which was the first historically African American college in the United States. The Oxford Historic Commission has worked long and hard to have the town of Oxford, PA become a historic district. In February of 2008 the Oxford Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Soon after, the Oxford Historic Commission started what is called “The House Plaque Program” where citizens of Oxford, PA can obtain a plaque if their home was built before 1939. Oxford’s main street is worth visiting and is home to many businesses, shopping, restaurants, and downtown events. Some of these businesses include chiropractic services, thrift shops, art galleries, wellness and youth centers, spas and salons, and many more shops and attractions. The Oxford Diner is a local favorite place to eat.
